Abstract

Based on the philosophical, historical, pedagogical, and historical-pedagogical works of Ukrainian and foreign scholars, this article defines and substantiates the methodological guidelines for researching the modern history of primary education in Ukraine in the second half of the 20th – early 21st century. It has been established that the methodological foundations of this research should rely on a combination of approaches appropriate to its subject (systemic, synergetic, cultural, paradigmatic, axiological, historiographic, and source-based), principles (historicism, objectivity, the unity of historical and logical, systematicity), and methods (general scientific and special: historical-structural, constructive-genetic, comparative, historical-genetic, etc.). The study should also be based on a conceptual and categorical framework (primary education, primary school, development of primary education, goals, organization, content, and educational process of primary education) and a logical-structural model of analysis (factors in the development of primary education; goal-oriented, organizational, content-related, and procedural components; trends in the phenomenon’s development). It is emphasized that the integrated use of methodological tools enables a comprehensive examination of the development of primary education and a holistic presentation of scientific findings.
